Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first mission aboard the space shuttle, is joined by veteran astronaut Matt Kowalski on his last flight before retirement. But on what seems like a routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalski all alone—bound only by each other and hurtling into the blackness of space. The deafening silence tells them they have lost all connection to Earth and any chance of rescue. As fear turns to panic, each gasp of air consumes the last remaining oxygen. But the only way home may be to go even further into the terrifying expanse of space.
